Default General Information About LASIK Surgery

LASIK is an eye surgery used to correct vision problems. LASIK is designed to help people reduce or end their dependence upon contacts or glasses to correct their vision. Results from LASIK can vary and perfect vision is not guaranteed. However, LASIK surgery has been able to help many people stop using contacts and glasses forever.

LASIK is an acronym for Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. During LASIK surgery a laser is used to reshape the cornea. The cornea if the clear area that covers the eye. Most of the eye problems that cause a person to need glasses or contacts are due to the cornea being misshaped.

LASIK is performed with a laser. The surgeon first cuts a flap in the cornea to fold it back and reveal the mod section of the cornea which is the area to be reshaped. The laser is then used to trim and shape the cornea. After the cornea is reshaped, the flap is closed and left to heal.

LASIK does not come without some warnings. There are many possible side effects form the surgery. That is why before getting LASIK a person should discuss all aspects of it with their surgeon. It is very important that the person understand what will happen during and after the surgery and what risks are involved.

LASIK surgery has been quite successful. It gives people the option to correct their vision permanently. As technology has advanced the chances of an adverse result have bee greatly reduced. Most people find they recover quickly and are able to go back to normal daily activities within a short time after their surgery. LASIK is an out patient surgery which means the person gets to go home right after they are released from recovery. The majority of people who get LASIK surgery are satisfied with the results and experience no major problems from the surgery.
